On a combi boiler this is often a faulty diverter valve. On a system with a cylinder, it could be the cylinder thermostat, a zone valve or the timer settings.
Common causes are a thermostat or timer issue, a stuck zone valve, a failed pump or low system pressure.
A frozen condensate pipe is the most likely cause. Pouring warm (not boiling) water along the outside pipe can thaw it, then reset the boiler. If it keeps happening, the pipe may need rerouting or insulating.
